How We Started Working Together
I first began working with Down 2 Earth Materials in 2021, and they were actually one of my first clients. We came together as I was working with a local West Cork client at the time, The Fish Basket.
As with many restaurants and Cafe’s in Cork, Down 2 Earth were a supplier of sustainable packaging for the Fish Basket, and by chance they saw (and really liked!) the photos I took for the Fish Basket and reached out to see if we could work together on some new cups they were releasing.
You might’ve seen a few of these cups around, which are a new type of cold cups that don’t require a straw.
Building Brand Content
Once I moved back to Cork city after Covid it was much easier to work together on a consistent basis, as their HQ is based near Douglas.
I believe communication with my clients is key, and we had a few in person meetings to identify the direction they wanted to go with their branding. From there, we worked on a few photoshoots, and also some short form video content that aligned with the branding strategy they had identified.
As they supply such a wide range of local businesses we were able to shoot content with Cork businesses such as, Twenty Cafe, Bean & Brownie and Crush Coffee.
Catalog Photography
After shooting more commercial, branded style content, we worked together on white background catalog photography where I shot their cups, cutlery and other packaging they provide.
The transparent cups were particularly challenging to light and photograph, as I wanted to keep their look of transparency with the consistency of a pure white background. Whilst they were a challenge, I was very happy with how they turned out in the end.
Since working together Down 2 Earth have been a great client of mine, and the lads Olan & Dave have been a pleasure to work with!
